In An Emergency
The university uses several methods to communicate information in the event of an emergency. For a full list of methods, please visit Emergency Management's emergency info page.
We have many outlets for parents/guardians to stay informed. Your first step will always be to check the University Homepage, as emergency info will be posted there. Other resources available to you include the Emergency Management website, the University Police Department Facebook page, and the University Police Department Twitter. There is also the University’s emergency hotline that can be reached at 512.245.2424.
In addition to the resources listed above, students also have the option to sign up for Texas State University's Alert System. The emergency notification system allows for texting to be sent by the university directly to your student's cellular phone. You can visit the FAQ page if you have any questions about the alert system.
For students living off-campus in San Marcos, the City of San Marcos homepage does a fantastic job of providing timely emergency updates. Students are also encouraged to register their phones to receive emergency alerts from the city.
The Dean of Students Office is responsible for coordinating a response to emergency incidents involving students. The office does this in collaboration with other areas of the university depending on the special circumstances.
