Family Weekend 2017

Welcome back to campus!

Join us for our annual Family Weekend at Texas State University. Spend the weekend on campus with your Bobcat enjoying activities planned for the whole family. You can also explore the great city of San Marcos through some of our partner events.

The weekend will entail a dinner, brunch, tailgating, football, and many other activities on campus and in the San Marcos community! As we plan, we will be updating this website and communicating with you through our e-newsletters. We look forward to seeing you in September! 

Tickets go on sale on Tuesday, August 1.

The final day to purchase tickets and to request a refund is Tuesday, September 5.

Campus Tour | LBJ Welcome Center | Free

There’s no better way to find out what campus is really like than to explore it with a current Texas State student. During your tour, student tour guides will show you the heart of campus, share their experiences as Bobcats and provide general information about the university they call home.

Tour space is limited, please register in advance.

If you purchased a Family Weekend ticket please stop by the official Family Weekend check-in booth on the 3rd floor outside the Ballroom to pick up your tickets, t-shirts and other goodies.

Student Recreation Center Open | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Show your Family Weekend badge and enjoy a cardio workout or play hoops with your Bobcat! Activity release is required and provided at the front desk. Sponsored by Campus Recreation.

4:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m.

Wine Walk | Downtown San Marcos | $30 per person

Wine Walk is around the Historic County Courthouse and Downtown Square. Tour historic downtown San Marcos and visit 17 stops for wine tastings and artisan food. Check-in will be held on the lawn of the Historical Hays County Courthouse. In the event of rain, check-in will be held in the courthouse rotunda. Sponsored by the San Marcos Main Street Program.

The Wine Walk ticket provides you with a commemorative etched wine glass, wine tastings and hors d'oeuvres from local eateries. Minors will receive a glass mason jar.

Minors need a ticket if they are attending Wine Walk with an adult. Tickets for adults and minors are limited.

Rockwall Open | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

The RockWall features two 54’ climbing towers and a large bouldering area which totals over 2,600 square feet of climbing terrain.

5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m.

Welcome Dinner | LBJ Ballroom | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Your Family Weekend ticket gets you a great catered meal and your family picture in the photo booth. This is a come and go dinner, so stop in when you are ready! Please bring your name badge to gain entry to event. Sponsored by University Federal Credit Union and Parent and Family Relations.

6:00 p.m.

Paddle Raft Trip | Outdoor Center/San Marcos River | $20 per person

Join the Outdoor Center on a paddle raft trip along the upper mile of the San Marcos River between Sewell Park and 1-35, and make runs through the Rio Vista Falls rapid! For more information call 512.245.2004.

Those wanting to participate in the paddle raft trip must weigh at least 60 pounds. 20 person limit.

8:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m.

Stargazing | Supple Science Building - Observatory | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Located on the fourth floor of the Supple Science Building. The observatory houses a 16-inch telescope making our galaxies visible from both near and far.

Family Feud | LBJ Teaching Theater 4-16.1 | Free

Survey says you and your family should join the Student Association for Campus Activities (SACA) for a friendly game of Family Feud! All families are invited to attend. Sign-ups will be first come, first served and participants will be paired with families of equal size. Sponsored by SACA.

Downtown Mermaid Parade | Downtown San Marcos | Free

Highlighting our unique river and artistic culture, the Downtown Mermaid Parade is created to be a celebration San Marcos’ vibrant community. The parade will feature floats, marchers, dancers and music!  This ‘Texas original’ will highlight selected honorees representing the arts, river guardianship, local business and heritage of San Marcos.

10:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Mermaid Aqua Faire | San Marcos Park Plaza | Free

Join the Mermaid Aqua Faire for an afternoon of live music, artist showcasing their work, and food booths. Family friendly art activities will be available. Everyone is encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and picnic blankets.

Festival goers will learn about conservation stewardship at the ECO VILLAGE coordinated by the Meadows Center for Water and the Environment. Take part in a variety of interactive activities planned for the whole family: hands-on workshops, scheduled presentations on a variety of subjects, and art inspired learning projects.

Family Association Scholarship Brunch | LBJSC Ballroom | $10 per person

Join us for the Family Association Scholarship Brunch where 100% of the proceeds will go to the Family Association scholarship endowment. The Family Association scholarship recipients will be recognized at the brunch. This event is open to anyone attending Family Weekend. There is a 200 person limit.

Family Weekend Tailgate | Sewell Park | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Come out to Sewell Park to enjoy an afternoon of swimming, family fun activities, and a catered meal. Sponsored by Parent and Family Relations and Campus Recreation.

6:00 p.m.

Appalachian State vs. Texas State | Bobcat Stadium | $11 per general admission ticket

Want to cheer on the Bobcats? Join us for the Appalachian State vs. Texas State football game!

Here is what you need to know:

  • Your Texas State student has free general admission to all athletic events.
  • If you wish to sit in general admission with your student, you will purchase a general admission ticket. These are $11.00 per person and can be added to your Family Weekend package.
  • If you wish to sit in reserved seating, you will purchase a seat of your choice through Athletics, and you will need to purchase a seat for your Texas State student if they want to sit with you in reserved seating.
  • If you have season or half season tickets for the game, you are all set to go!

Additional Events:

Flat Boko - Join Flat Boko on a fun-filled adventure around campus! Look through Flat Boko’s passport to see the destinations he has to visit. Flat Boko must travel to at least ten out of the twenty destinations listed in his passport. Take pictures of Flat Boko at his destinations and upload to Parent and Family Relations Facebook page for a chance to win a prize. Takes approximately one hour to complete. The pictures must be uploaded to the Facebook page by Tuesday, September 19.
