Many of the events and activities happening during Family Weekend are concurrent, so please review start and end times when planning for the weekend.

Friday, September 27

The Wittliff Collections Open | Alkek Library- 7th Floor | Free

Founded by Austin screenwriter and photographer Bill Wittliff and his wife, Sally, the mission of the Wittliff Collections is to collect, preserve and share the artistic process that springs from the Southwestern imagination. Thousands of students, researchers and visitors engage with the collections each year and discover how the unique character of our region shapes its people and its culture.

Glass-Bottom Boats | The Meadows Center | $5.00 per person, 2 and under are free

Take a tour of and learn about Spring Lake on the glass-bottom boats. Show your Family Weekend name badge to get the $5.00 Texas State rate. You will need to check-in for Family Weekend first to receive your Family Weekend name badge. Children two and under are free.

If you purchased a Family Weekend ticket, stop by the official Family Weekend check-in at the Student Recreation Center to pick up your name badge, t-shirt, and other goodies.

Student Recreation Center Open | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Show your Family Weekend badge and enjoy a cardio workout or play hoops with your Bobcat! Activity release is required and provided at the front desk.

Paddle Raft Trip | Outdoor Center/San Marcos River | $20 per person

If you purchased a paddle raft trip ticket, join the Outdoor Center on a paddle raft trip through the San Marcos river! The trip will last approximately one and a half to two hours. Participants must weigh at least 60 pounds. For more information, call 512-245-2004. Tickets are limited.

Campus Tour | LBJ Student Center Welcome Center- 3rd Floor | Included in Family Weekend tickets

There’s no better way to find out what campus is really like than to explore it with a current Texas State student. During your walking tour, student tour guides will show you the heart of our San Marcos campus, share their experiences as Bobcats and provide general information about the university they call home. The tour will last approximately one hour and fifteen minutes. Tour space is limited, please register in advance.

4:00 - 6:00 p.m.

 

Student Recreation Center Tours | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Enjoy a 20-minute Student Recreation tour that will showcase the 186,000 square foot facility. Tours will leave at 4:00, 4:20, 4:40, 5:00, 5:20, and 5:40. Meet in the lobby of the Student Recreation Center for the tour. Prior registration is not necessary. 

 

4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

 

Off-Campus Living Presentation | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

After the first year at Texas State, most students must live off campus. Join the Department of Housing and Residential Life's Off-Campus Living staff to learn what it means to live off campus. Off-Campus Living will go over how they can help your Bobcat make the transition to move off campus while utilizing the different resources available to assist them.

 

4:30 - 5:30 p.m.

 

Becoming an RA: Create Your Story Presentation | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Join the Department of Housing and Residential Life for information about the application process and timeline for becoming a Resident Assistant (RA) for Housing and Residential Life. Get information about eligibility requirements, the job description, and what to expect along the way in applying to become an RA.

 

5:00 - 9:00 p.m.

 

Climbing Center Open | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Show your Family Weekend badge to enjoy the two 54’ climbing towers and a large bouldering area which totals over 2,600 square feet of climbing terrain.

 

5:30 - 8:30 p.m.

 

Welcome Dinner | Student Recreation Center | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Join us for an evening of delicious food and family fun. This is a come-and-go dinner, so stop in whenever. Food will begin being served at 5:30 p.m.

 

6:00 p.m.

Wine Walk | Downtown San Marcos | $30 per person (21 and up), $20 per minor

Brought to you by the City of San Marcos Main Street Program. The Wine Walk is around the Historic County Courthouse and Downtown Square. Tour historic downtown San Marcos and visit stops for wine tastings and artisan food from downtown dining establishments. Tickets are limited.

Wine Walk Shuttle Information- Bus will stage at Campus Rec at 5:30 p.m. It will depart for the first run for downtown at 5:45 p.m. It will drop at the northside of the square curb cut. The bus will run a continuous loop for the entirety of the event and the last run will leave Downtown at 9:30 p.m.  Sandwich boards will direct from campus rec to the bus pick up there and a sandwich board will be staged at Wine Walk for the pick up location.

Movie Night: Selena | Jones Amphitheater- Behind Jones Dining Hall | Free

Join the Student Association for Campus Activities (SACA) for a free movie night. Selena will be the featured movie! and shown silently where participants wear headphones to listen.

Directed by Dr. Jacob Harrison- the newly appointed director of orchestral activities and associate professor of conducting at Texas State University.

Stargazing | Supple Science Building Observatory- 4th Floor | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Located on the fourth floor of the Supple Science Building, the observatory houses a 16-inch telescope making our galaxies visible from both near and far.

Lions Club Tube Rental | San Marcos City Park | $14 for the first tube, $7 for the second

Float the San Marcos River, and rent your tubes from the Lions Club! Show your Family Weekend name badge to rent one tube and get the second one half off. The rental is good for all day and includes the shuttle. The last tube goes out at 5:30 p.m., and the last shuttle picks up at Rio Vista at 6:30 p.m. You pay for your tubes at the Lions Club.

Path to Graduation Browse | LBJ Student Center Ballroom- 3rd Floor | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Mountain Bike Spring Lake | Outdoor Center | $15 per person - SOLD OUT

If you purchased a mountain bike Spring Lake ticket, join the Outdoor Center for an exciting mountain bike ride through the trails in the Spring Lake Natural Area. This is ideal for beginner to intermediate riders. Participants must be at least 16 years old and fit the provided bikes correctly, unless a personal bike is brought by the participant. The trip will last approximately two hours. Check-In | Sewell Park | Included in Family Weekend ticket

If you didn't check-in Friday, stop by the official Family Weekend check-in to pick up your name badge, t-shirt, and other goodies. All check-in packets must be collected by 4:00 p.m.

 

2:00 - 5:00 p.m.

 

Picnic | Sewell Park | Included in Family Weekend ticket

Come to the Picnic in Sewell Park for an afternoon full of food and family-friendly activities. Enjoy live music, yard games, and swimming in the San Marcos River with your family. Yoga sessions will be offered under the pavilion at 2:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. Yoga mats will be available to borrow. Paddle boards, kayaks, snorkel sets, volleyballs, basketballs, frisbees, and soccer balls are all free to rent through the Outdoor Center with a Texas State student id. Two boats allowed per student id.

Texas State Football vs. Nicholls State | Bobcat Stadium | $11 per general admission ticket

Want to cheer on the Bobcats? Join us for the Texas State Football vs. Nicholls State football game! Here is what you need to know:

  • Your Texas State student has free general admission to all athletic events.
  • If you wish to sit in general admission with your student, you will need to purchase a general admission ticket.
  • If you wish to sit in reserved seating, you will need to purchase a seat of your choice through Athletics, and you will need to purchase a seat for your Texas State student if they want to sit with you in reserved seating.
  • If you have season or half season tickets for the game, you are all set to go!
  • If you would like to purchase season tickets, please visit the Athletics website.

You can also still purchase tickets to the TXST football game on Saturday, September 28. For discounted general admission tickets, enter the promo code FAMILY into the promo code box on the top right corner of the link below. Purchase those tickets on the Athletics website.

Want to welcome the Bobcat football team onto the field as part of the pregame tunnel? Meet under the scoreboard by the pavilion (inside Gate 1) at 5:30 p.m. to participate. Please remember to wear your Family Weekend name badge. Children are welcome to participate with an adult.

Mermaid March | City of San Marcos | No charge

Explore the city of San Marcos on your own to find all the mermaid statues. The Mermaid March is a public art project that celebrates the art, culture and natural beauty of San Marcos. The mermaid forms were created by the Fountain People and painted by artists selected by the Arts Commission. This is a public art project of the Arts Commission of San Marcos.
